I did it!! I ran my first 1/2 Marathon!
So, a little history.... I started running in May. I decided to start running b/c everyone I knew was skinny and I was tired of not being skinny, so I decided that I would start with running (and that was really so I didn't have to get a gym membership:)). So, my goal of it all was to run a 5k. I did that in August! In August, my friend in my playgroup Nikki was interested in starting to run as well. We started running together 2-3 days a week. We made a goal to run a 10k in the fall. That 10k came along on Thanksgiving for the Turkey Trot! In Oct, we decided that we would train to run the Dallas White Rock Half Marathon. Our training consisted of running 4 days a week, cross training for 2 days, and only 1 day of rest. We did this for 7 weeks straight, and ran over 140 miles. On Dec. 13, WE DID IT!!!!!!!! Our finish goal was 2 hours 30 min, we finished in 2 hour 17 min!!!!!! We ROCKED our first half marathon! I am still on cloud nine and can't believe that we did it.
I honestly wouldn't have been able to run 13.1 miles, little alone 2 miles, without the best partner ever. Nikki has been such an inspiration and motivator and kept me going no matter what. Some days I did not want to get out of bed at 4:45am, but I knew Nikki's smiling face would be at the street corner waiting for me. Out of all this, I have gained such a great friendship that I am so thankful for!
Our sweet flowers that we got from my family! The best part of this picture is Campbell's hands. She is so observant-- I painted my nails on Sat night and that was the FIRST thing that she noticed when I came up. She was telling me that she wanted her nails painted too. I love it!
Just seconds after crossing the finish line!
Sorry so small. This was us running by Nikki's family at about mile 8.
***Thank you to all of my family and friends for supporting me through this as well. Thank you for making it out to the race on a Sunday morning! You are the best! And to my my wonderful husband and all of his fantastic support. I love you babe!
